An experienced Water and Wastewater Superintendent is required to lead the safe, efficient and compliant operation of water treatment, wastewater treatment and associated distribution and collection assets. The postholder will oversee day-to-day operational performance, ensuring services are delivered reliably, efficiently and in accordance with relevant legislation, permits, environmental standards and health and safety requirements. This role will involve coordinating operational teams, contractors and specialist suppliers across treatment works, pumping stations, reservoirs and network infrastructure.
Key responsibilities will include planning and supervising maintenance, inspection and improvement programmes; monitoring plant performance and process quality; reviewing operational data and responding promptly to alarms, incidents and service interruptions. You will investigate failures, identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions, while maintaining accurate records, operational procedures, risk assessments and contingency plans. The role will also involve managing budgets and resources, supporting capital projects, contributing to emergency preparedness, and ensuring that all work is undertaken in accordance with approved standards and procedures. You will promote a strong safety culture, lead toolbox talks and operational briefings, and ensure teams are appropriately trained, competent and supported.
Applicants should have substantial experience in water or wastewater operations, with a sound understanding of treatment processes, pumping systems, environmental compliance and asset management. You will need strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills, together with the confidence to make informed decisions in challenging situations. Excellent communication skills are essential, as the role requires effective engagement with colleagues, regulators, contractors and community stakeholders. A proactive, practical and collaborative approach, along with a commitment to continuous improvement and high standards of service, is expected. The ability to participate in an out-of-hours or emergency response rota may also be required.
