Construction Director - Road Tunnel Project (Peru)
Location: Peru (near Lima)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract Type: Long-term project assignment (5 years)
Salary: Circa €100,000 per annum (negotiable depending on experience)
The Project
An international main contractor is bidding to deliver a government-funded road tunnel project in Peru, executed under FIDIC Red Book conditions.
The scope includes the construction of two 7km road tunnels, utilising Drill & Blast excavation methods with in-situ concrete lining. This is a high-profile infrastructure scheme forming part of a wider national transport programme.
The Role
The Construction Director will have overall responsibility for the successful delivery of the tunnel works, with full accountability for safety, quality, programme, cost control, and profitability.
Reporting at project level, you will lead large, multidisciplinary and multinational teams and work closely with joint venture partners, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal support functions.
Key responsibilities include:
Overall leadership and direction of tunnel construction activitiesEstablishing and implementing the project execution and profitability strategyFull responsibility for programme, cost, quality, safety and environmental performanceManaging and coordinating international project teams and key subcontractorsEnsuring full compliance with FIDIC Red Book, client requirements, and government standardsDriving a strong safety culture across all site operationsActing as a senior interface with the client, engineer, authorities and JV partnersProactively managing risk, resources, and technical challenges associated with drill & blast tunnelling
Requirements:
You will be a senior construction professional with a strong background in major tunnelling or linear infrastructure projects, ideally in international or emerging market environments.
Essential requirements:
Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, Structural Engineering, or similar15+ years overall professional experience post-graduation10+ years in senior site or project leadership roles (Construction Director, Project Director, Project Manager, or equivalent)Proven experience on tunnel projects using Drill & Blast / NATM methodsExperience delivering projects under FIDIC contracts, ideally Red BookStrong leadership, commercial awareness, and results-driven mindsetAbility to manage complex stakeholder and JV environments
Language skills:
Fluent English (written and spoken) - essentialSpanish - highly desirableExperience in Latin America is advantageous but not mandatory
