An established and rapidly growing independent power producer is seeking an experienced Director of Renewable Energy to lead the delivery of a major utility-scale energy transition program in Madagascar.
The business is one of the country's leading energy providers and is driving a large-scale expansion of renewable generation capacity, with a strong focus on solar power, hybridization and grid reliability. With significant investments underway and ambitious growth plans, this is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in increasing energy access and supporting long-term economic development.
The RoleReporting directly to the Executive Board, you will lead the implementation of the company's renewable energy strategy across multiple locations throughout Madagascar. You will oversee the development and execution of large-scale projects and ensure the successful transformation of an ambitious pipeline into reliable operating assets.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead the development, execution and commissioning of a substantial utility-scale solar portfolio.Drive the hybridization of existing generation assets, integrating thermal and renewable technologies to deliver a stable and cost-effective energy mix.Deliver key economic and environmental objectives through reduced fuel consumption and lower carbon emissions.Manage relationships with government bodies, utilities, development finance institutions and international stakeholders.Provide leadership to multidisciplinary teams across engineering, project delivery and operations.Support the strategic growth and long-term expansion of the renewable energy platform.Candidate ProfileFrench language fluency is essential for managing institutional stakeholders, local teams and commercial negotiations.

A leading developer of utility-scale renewable energy assets across Africa is hiring a Technical Project Manager - Solar & Storage to lead EPC execution on high-impact solar PV and BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) projects in Madagascar and the region.

Role OverviewAs the Technical Project Manager, you will be accountable for the technical execution and delivery of utility-scale solar and BESS EPC projects. Your role will span detailed engineering review, contractor management, quality control, construction oversight, and project commissioning. You will also act as a technical interface for stakeholders, ensuring alignment with engineering standards and project objectives.
Key ResponsibilitiesManage the complete EPC lifecycle of solar PV and battery storage projects, from design through to handover.
Review and validate engineering designs, single-line diagrams, and system integration (PV, BESS, SCADA, MV).
Oversee contractor performance during procurement, civil works, mechanical and electrical installation, and commissioning.
Coordinate cross-functional teams including engineering consultants, OEMs, suppliers, lenders' engineers, and government entities.
Monitor technical compliance with grid codes, HSE standards, and environmental regulations.
Lead technical risk assessments and proactively implement corrective actions.
Report on technical progress, quality assurance, and cost control to senior stakeholders.
Requirements5+ years of EPC or IPP experience in solar PV and battery energy storage systems (utility-scale preferred).
Degree in Electrical, Electromechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
Strong understanding of hybrid systems, SCADA architecture, EMS/PMS integration, and MV distribution networks.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple technical workstreams across geographically dispersed teams.
Proficient in project scheduling tools and technical reporting.
Fluent in English; French at a professional level required.
Willingness to travel across project locations as needed.
Compensation & LocationMonthly Salary: €5,000 - €8,000 (Net) + Accommodation
Location: Madagascar (with regional travel)
