We are seeking an Intermediate Bridge Engineer to contribute to the design, assessment, inspection and delivery of bridge and civil structures across a varied portfolio of transportation and infrastructure projects. Working alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams, you will support projects from concept through to detailed design, construction and completion. This role offers the opportunity to develop your technical expertise while working on both new-build and existing bridge assets.

Your responsibilities will include preparing calculations, technical reports, drawings and specifications for bridge structures; undertaking structural assessments and load evaluations; assisting with site inspections and condition surveys; and contributing to feasibility studies, option appraisals and detailed design packages. You will help coordinate design information with geotechnical, highways, drainage and other engineering disciplines, while supporting the preparation of fee proposals, programmes and project documentation. You may also provide technical support during construction, respond to contractor queries and attend site meetings as required.

Applicants should hold a degree in civil or structural engineering and have relevant experience in bridge engineering, structural design or infrastructure consultancy. Membership of a recognised professional engineering institution, or progress towards professional registration, would be advantageous. You should have a sound understanding of structural behaviour, design principles, relevant codes and standards, and experience using engineering design and analysis software. Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills are essential, together with the ability to manage priorities and work effectively both independently and as part of a team. A willingness to undertake site visits and occasional travel is required. We are seeking an experienced Principal Bridge Technician to provide technical leadership and specialist support across the inspection, assessment, maintenance and improvement of bridge and highway structures. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality technical outputs, supporting project teams and helping to ensure that structures remain safe, compliant and fit for purpose. The role will involve planning and undertaking principal and general inspections, reviewing inspection findings, identifying defects and deterioration, and contributing to repair, strengthening and maintenance proposals.

You will coordinate site activities, prepare inspection records, technical reports, drawings, specifications and cost estimates, and provide clear recommendations to clients and project stakeholders. The successful candidate will be expected to mentor and support less experienced technicians, contribute to quality assurance processes, and help manage health, safety and environmental risks associated with inspections and construction-related work. Duties may include assisting with structural assessments, reviewing contractor submissions, monitoring remedial works, undertaking site surveys and using specialist access equipment where required. You will also maintain accurate asset information and ensure that all work is completed in accordance with relevant standards, procedures and statutory requirements.

Applicants should have substantial experience in bridge inspection, structural maintenance or a related civil engineering environment, together with a strong understanding of bridge construction, common defects, deterioration mechanisms and repair techniques. A relevant technical qualification or equivalent practical experience is required, along with knowledge of applicable inspection guidance, health and safety legislation and quality management procedures. You should be confident interpreting technical drawings and specifications, producing accurate written reports and communicating effectively with colleagues, contractors and stakeholders. The role requires sound judgement, strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently while contributing positively to a multidisciplinary team. A full driving licence and willingness to travel to sites, work outdoors and access structures in challenging conditions are also essential.
