We are seeking an experienced Water Resources Superintendent to lead the safe, efficient and sustainable management of water resources across a complex operational environment. The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day water supply, storage, treatment and distribution activities, ensuring that assets and services meet regulatory, environmental and operational requirements. This role will involve supervising operational teams, coordinating planned and reactive works, and maintaining reliable water availability for customers, communities and other stakeholders.
Key responsibilities will include developing and implementing water resource management plans; monitoring abstraction, consumption, demand and availability; and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, permits, environmental standards and internal procedures. You will coordinate inspections, maintenance and improvement programmes for reservoirs, pumping stations, pipelines, treatment facilities and associated infrastructure. The role will also require effective incident management, including responding to supply interruptions, water quality concerns, flooding, drought conditions and other operational emergencies. You will analyse performance data, prepare reports, manage budgets and resources, and identify opportunities to improve resilience, efficiency and sustainability.
Applicants should have substantial experience in water resources, water operations, environmental management or a closely related discipline, together with a strong understanding of water industry standards, regulatory requirements and health and safety practices. A relevant technical qualification or equivalent professional experience is desirable. You will need proven leadership and team-management skills, sound judgement, and the ability to prioritise competing demands in a high-pressure environment. Strong communication and stakeholder-management abilities are essential, as is confidence working with contractors, regulators, technical specialists and local communities. A practical, proactive approach and commitment to continuous improvement are expected. The role may involve working outside normal hours, participating in an emergency response rota and travelling between operational sites.
