We are seeking a Quality Inspector – Rolling Stock to support the inspection, testing and release of rail vehicles and associated components. You will help ensure that all work complies with approved drawings, technical specifications, engineering standards, customer requirements and applicable rail regulations. The role involves working closely with production, engineering, maintenance and project teams to identify issues early and promote a strong culture of quality and safety.
Your responsibilities will include carrying out detailed visual, dimensional and functional inspections on rolling stock, assemblies, sub-assemblies and finished work. You will review workmanship, materials, documentation and test results, using appropriate measuring and inspection equipment. You will record findings accurately, raise non-conformance reports where required, support root-cause investigations and verify that corrective actions have been completed effectively. You will also contribute to first-off inspections, final acceptance checks, inspection plans, quality records and continuous improvement activities. Where necessary, you may support audits, witness testing and the investigation of customer or production concerns.
The successful candidate will have experience in quality inspection within rail, engineering, manufacturing, automotive, aerospace or another highly regulated environment. Knowledge of rolling stock systems, mechanical and electrical assemblies, engineering drawings, tolerances and inspection techniques would be advantageous. You should be confident using tools such as verniers, micrometers, gauges and other calibrated equipment, with the ability to interpret technical documentation and identify defects or deviations. Familiarity with quality management systems, non-conformance processes and standards such as ISO 9001 or relevant rail industry requirements is desirable. Strong attention to detail, accurate record-keeping, good communication skills and a methodical approach are essential. You must be able to work independently and collaboratively, prioritise tasks effectively and maintain high standards in a safety-critical environment.
