We are seeking an experienced Tunnel Design Manager to lead and coordinate the design process for complex underground infrastructure projects. In this role, you will be responsible for managing design activities from early planning and concept development through detailed design, construction support and project completion. You will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, including civil, structural, geotechnical, geological, electrical, mechanical and safety specialists, ensuring that all design work is aligned with project objectives, technical requirements, budgets and schedules.
Your responsibilities will include establishing design strategies, plans and deliverables; coordinating interfaces between disciplines, contractors, consultants and project stakeholders; reviewing and approving technical documentation; and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, standards and contractual requirements. You will identify and manage design risks, support constructability assessments, contribute to value engineering and assist with resolving technical issues during construction. The role also involves participating in design reviews, progress meetings, procurement activities and change management, while maintaining clear documentation and effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.
We are looking for a professionally qualified engineer with substantial experience in tunnel design and multidisciplinary infrastructure projects. You should have a strong understanding of tunnel engineering principles, construction methods, geological and geotechnical conditions, risk management and design coordination. Experience with relevant design software, digital collaboration tools and BIM processes is desirable. The successful candidate will combine technical expertise with strong leadership, planning and communication skills, and will be comfortable making decisions in a complex project environment. A structured and collaborative working style, a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to build effective relationships are essential. Fluency in English is required; knowledge of a Scandinavian language is an advantage.

This senior role will provide technical leadership across infrastructure, earthworks, drainage, utilities, roads, pavements, external works and associated site development packages. You will establish design strategies, coordinate multidisciplinary inputs and ensure that solutions are safe, buildable, sustainable, commercially viable and aligned with programme requirements.
Key responsibilities will include managing civil design teams, consultants and specialist contractors; reviewing scopes, specifications, calculations, drawings and models; and ensuring that design outputs meet applicable codes, standards and client requirements. You will lead design reviews, value engineering workshops, risk assessments and technical assurance activities, while identifying and resolving design interfaces across structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical and security disciplines. The role will also involve supporting procurement, planning and construction teams, responding to technical queries, monitoring progress against agreed milestones and maintaining clear records of design decisions, changes and approvals.
The successful candidate will have substantial experience managing civil design on complex infrastructure, industrial, mission-critical or data centre projects, ideally in a fast-paced, international environment. A degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering is required, together with professional registration or a recognised industry accreditation where applicable. You should be confident interpreting technical information, challenging design assumptions and communicating effectively with stakeholders at all levels. Experience with multidisciplinary coordination, design management systems, BIM processes, relevant civil engineering software and construction-stage delivery will be highly valued. Strong leadership, organisation, commercial awareness and problem-solving skills are essential, along with a commitment to quality, health and safety, environmental performance and continuous improvement.
