We are seeking an experienced Superintendent – Bridges & Highways to lead the safe, efficient and high-quality delivery of major infrastructure works. This role will oversee construction activities across bridge, highway, road and associated civil engineering projects, ensuring that work is completed in accordance with approved designs, specifications, programmes, budgets and applicable legislation. The successful candidate will provide visible leadership on site and work closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, consultants and other stakeholders to achieve excellent project outcomes.
Responsibilities will include coordinating daily site operations, supervising construction teams and subcontractors, monitoring progress and productivity, and ensuring that materials, plant and labour are properly planned and utilised. You will review method statements, risk assessments, inspection and test plans, and technical documentation, while maintaining rigorous standards of quality, health, safety and environmental compliance. The role will also involve identifying construction risks, resolving technical and operational issues, contributing to programme updates, maintaining accurate site records, and supporting commercial and change-control processes. You may be required to oversee activities such as earthworks, drainage, temporary works, concrete structures, bridge construction, highways, pavements and associated utility or traffic-management works.
Applicants should have substantial experience in a site leadership or superintendent position within highways, bridges, heavy civil engineering or related infrastructure projects. A relevant technical qualification, trade background or degree in civil engineering or construction is desirable, together with a strong understanding of construction methods, quality systems, health and safety requirements, environmental controls and contract procedures. You must be confident interpreting drawings and specifications, leading multidisciplinary teams and communicating effectively with people at all levels. Strong organisational, problem-solving and decision-making skills are essential, as is the ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing project priorities. A valid driving licence and willingness to work on active construction sites, including occasional out-of-hours or weekend work, may be required.
