We are seeking an experienced Road and Bridge Superintendent to oversee the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of road, bridge, drainage, and related civil infrastructure works. This role will coordinate day-to-day construction activities, supervise field crews and subcontractors, and ensure projects are completed to approved plans, specifications, schedules, and budgets. The successful candidate will provide practical leadership on site while maintaining high standards of workmanship, productivity, safety, and environmental performance.
Key responsibilities include planning and allocating labour, plant, materials, and equipment; interpreting engineering drawings, contracts, and technical specifications; monitoring construction progress and quality; and coordinating inspections, testing, traffic management, and utility interfaces. You will identify and resolve site issues, maintain accurate daily records, review timesheets and quantities, and contribute to progress reporting and cost control. The role will also involve liaising with engineers, contractors, suppliers, regulators, stakeholders, and members of the public, as well as responding promptly to operational issues and emergency works. You will be expected to enforce safe work practices, conduct toolbox meetings, investigate hazards and incidents, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, permits, standards, and environmental requirements.
Applicants should have substantial experience supervising road, bridge, or civil construction projects, with demonstrated knowledge of earthworks, pavements, concrete structures, drainage, asphalt, traffic control, and construction methods. A relevant trade qualification, certificate, diploma, or equivalent industry experience is desirable. Strong leadership, communication, organisational, problem-solving, and reporting skills are essential, along with the ability to read plans, manage competing priorities, and make sound decisions under pressure. A current driver’s licence and relevant construction safety certifications are required. The successful applicant must be willing to work outdoors in varying conditions and undertake occasional extended hours, weekend work, or emergency response as project requirements dictate.
