We are seeking a motivated Field Biologist to support ecological surveys, environmental assessments, and biodiversity monitoring across a range of sites. The successful candidate will carry out fieldwork in varied conditions, including remote locations and challenging terrain, while working safely and professionally. Duties may include habitat and species surveys, protected species checks, vegetation assessments, water and soil sampling, wildlife monitoring, and the accurate recording of field observations. You will also assist with survey planning, equipment preparation, site access arrangements, and the interpretation of ecological data.
You will maintain clear and accurate field notes, photographs, maps, and digital records, ensuring that all information is collected in accordance with relevant legislation, survey guidance, and quality standards. The role may involve using GPS devices, mapping software, environmental databases, and specialist survey equipment. You may also contribute to technical reports, ecological impact assessments, mitigation recommendations, and method statements. Effective communication with colleagues, contractors, landowners, and other stakeholders will be an important part of the position, as will the ability to explain findings clearly and professionally.
Applicants should have a degree or equivalent experience in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related subject, together with practical experience of ecological fieldwork. Knowledge of local habitats, protected species, environmental regulations, and standard survey techniques is desirable. A strong attention to detail, good organisational skills, physical fitness, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are essential. Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight trips may be required depending on seasonal survey needs. A full driving licence and willingness to travel between project locations are advantageous.
