We are seeking an experienced General Superintendent 1 to lead the successful delivery of healthcare construction projects from preconstruction through completion. This role is responsible for coordinating daily site operations, maintaining high standards of safety and quality, and ensuring work is delivered in accordance with approved plans, specifications, schedules, and applicable regulations. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in active or occupied healthcare environments where careful planning, communication, and attention to infection-control requirements are essential.
Key responsibilities include supervising field activities and subcontractors, reviewing construction documents, coordinating inspections, and monitoring progress against project milestones. You will develop short-term schedules, identify potential risks or delays, and work closely with project managers, healthcare representatives, consultants, and trade partners to resolve issues efficiently. The role also involves leading site meetings, maintaining accurate project records, verifying materials and workmanship, and ensuring that testing, commissioning, closeout, and handover activities are completed to the required standard. You will promote a collaborative site culture while enforcing all safety procedures, site rules, infection-prevention protocols, and regulatory requirements.
Applicants should have significant experience supervising commercial or healthcare construction projects, with a strong understanding of field operations, construction sequencing, and subcontractor management. Experience working in hospitals, clinics, laboratories, or other live healthcare facilities is highly desirable. Strong knowledge of construction drawings, building codes, scheduling practices, quality assurance, and health and safety standards is required. Excellent communication, organisation, leadership, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to manage competing priorities and make sound decisions under pressure. A relevant construction qualification, trade background, or equivalent practical experience will be valued. This position requires a proactive leader who takes ownership, builds effective working relationships, and consistently delivers safe, high-quality results.
