Job Title: Protection & Control (P&C) Commissioning Engineer - Substation Project (Contract)
Location: Onshore, Europe
Contract Duration: 10+ months (high likelihood of 12-month extension)
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday (rotation options may be considered)
Position Overview:
We are looking for a skilled Protection & Control (P&C) Commissioning Engineer to support the delivery of a major onshore substation project in Europe. The role will focus on the commissioning of protection relays, control systems, and automation interfaces, ensuring seamless integration and operation within high-voltage environments.
This is a long-term contract role, ideal for an experienced commissioning engineer seeking a technically challenging position in a dynamic project setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Execute commissioning activities related to protection relays, control systems, and SCADA interfaces within substations.Perform functional testing, logic checks, and configuration of protection devices (e.g. distance, differential, overcurrent, etc.).Interface with engineering and construction teams to validate protection and control schemes.Support the energization process and ensure all systems operate safely and as designed.Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues arising during testing and commissioning.Ensure all commissioning documentation is accurately completed, including test reports, punch lists, and system sign-offs.Follow project-specific procedures and applicable industry standards for safety and compliance.Collaborate closely with the Commissioning Manager and wider project team to meet commissioning deadlines.Required Experience & Qualifications:
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in Protection & Control commissioning within HV substation or transmission projects.Solid hands-on experience with protection relays (e.g. SEL, ABB, Siemens, GE Multilin, etc.).Familiarity with grid automation, including SCADA systems, IEDs, and substation control networks.Strong understanding of electrical protection principles and relay coordination.Ability to read and interpret protection and control schematics.Knowledge of European grid standards and utility commissioning protocols.Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.Contract Details:

Job Overview:
We are working with an international OEM to recruit a skilled Protection and Control Engineer for a contract opportunity focused on Transmission & Distribution (T&D) systems within the wind industry. The successful candidate will work on both onshore and offshore wind farm projects across the UK and Europe, responsible for the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of protection and control systems for T&D networks, ensuring safe and efficient power transmission from wind farms to the grid.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and commission protection and control systems for electrical T&D networks in onshore and offshore wind farm projects.Perform fault analysis, ensuring protection schemes comply with industry standards and mitigate risks within T&D systems.Provide technical support for onshore and offshore installations, including substations, transformers, high-voltage cables, and grid connections.Oversee and coordinate the testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of protection systems for T&D networks.Perform system upgrades and fault investigations, ensuring minimal downtime.Develop and review technical documentation, including reports, manuals, and maintenance guidelines.Collaborate with project teams, OEMs, and contractors to ensure protection and control solutions meet client specifications and regulatory requirements.Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with safety standards, regulations, and procedures.Requirements:
