We are seeking a Consulting Associate, Field Biologist to support environmental consulting projects through field investigations, biological surveys, data analysis and technical reporting. This role will contribute to projects involving habitat assessments, wildlife and botanical surveys, ecological monitoring, permitting support and environmental impact evaluations. The successful candidate will work both independently and as part of multidisciplinary project teams, often in varied outdoor conditions and locations.
Key responsibilities include planning and conducting field surveys in accordance with approved methodologies and relevant regulations; identifying and documenting plant, animal and habitat features; recording accurate field data using GPS, mobile applications, field forms and photographic documentation; collecting samples where required; and maintaining organised records, equipment and chain-of-custody documentation. You will assist with data entry, mapping, statistical summaries and the preparation of technical memoranda, survey reports, permit applications and supporting materials. The role may also involve coordinating with clients, contractors, landowners, regulators and other specialists, as well as supporting site visits, mitigation monitoring and construction compliance activities.
Candidates should hold a degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, natural resources or a related discipline, together with practical experience conducting biological or environmental fieldwork. Familiarity with regional flora and fauna, ecological survey techniques, environmental regulations and health and safety procedures is highly desirable. Experience with GIS, GPS equipment, spreadsheets, databases and technical writing will be valued. Professional certifications, relevant species licences or specialist survey experience are advantageous. You should be comfortable working outdoors for extended periods, travelling to project sites and adapting to changing schedules and weather conditions. Strong attention to detail, clear communication, sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities are essential. A valid driving licence and the ability to meet applicable fieldwork requirements may be needed.
