We are seeking a Commissioning Project Manager, BESS, to lead the successful commissioning and handover of battery energy storage system projects from construction completion through to commercial operation. You will take ownership of commissioning strategy, planning, coordination and execution, ensuring that all activities are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget and to the required technical and contractual standards. The role will involve working across multidisciplinary teams, including engineering, construction, controls, grid connection, operations, suppliers, subcontractors and client representatives.

Your responsibilities will include developing and maintaining commissioning plans, schedules, procedures, test documentation and readiness trackers. You will coordinate inspection, testing and energisation activities for battery systems, power conversion equipment, medium- and high-voltage infrastructure, protection systems, transformers, SCADA, energy management systems and auxiliary equipment. You will manage commissioning risks, resolve technical and interface issues, monitor progress, lead regular meetings and provide clear reporting to project stakeholders. You will also oversee punch-list closure, performance testing, reliability runs, grid compliance activities, documentation review, training and final handover to the operations team.

The successful candidate will have proven experience managing commissioning activities on utility-scale energy, renewable power, electrical infrastructure or battery storage projects. A strong understanding of electrical systems, control systems, protection and testing requirements is essential, together with experience working under high-voltage safety rules and permit-to-work procedures. You should be confident leading contractors and technical teams, managing competing priorities and making informed decisions in a fast-moving project environment. Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills are required, along with the ability to interpret technical documentation and contractual requirements. A degree, diploma or equivalent qualification in electrical engineering, power systems or a related discipline is preferred. Relevant commissioning, project management or electrical safety certifications will be advantageous, as will experience with grid-connected BESS projects, SCADA/EMS integration and regulatory compliance. Travel to project sites may be required.

A degree in engineering, project management, or a related field is preferred, along with relevant certifications that demonstrate your commitment to professional development and industry knowledge.
