We are seeking a motivated Junior Biologist to support laboratory, field and data-based activities across a range of biological projects. Working under the guidance of experienced scientists, you will assist with sample collection, preparation, processing and analysis in accordance with approved protocols. You will help maintain accurate experimental records, organise biological materials, monitor equipment and ensure that work areas are kept clean, safe and compliant with relevant health, safety and quality standards.
Your responsibilities will include conducting routine laboratory procedures, recording and interpreting observations, contributing to data entry and analysis, and preparing clear technical notes and reports. You may also support field surveys, environmental monitoring, specimen identification or quality-control activities, depending on project requirements. The role involves collaborating with colleagues from different technical disciplines, following standard operating procedures, raising issues promptly and contributing to the continuous improvement of methods and documentation.
Applicants should have a degree or equivalent qualification in biology, biological sciences, ecology, microbiology, biotechnology or a related subject. Practical experience gained through academic, laboratory, fieldwork or placement activities is desirable. You should demonstrate a sound understanding of biological principles, careful attention to detail and the ability to handle samples and information responsibly. Strong organisational and communication skills are essential, together with confidence using standard computer software for recording and reviewing data.
