We are seeking an Assistant Supervisor, Water Quality to support the effective delivery of water quality monitoring, compliance, and operational improvement activities. The role will assist with coordinating daily field and laboratory programmes, ensuring that sampling, testing, data management, and reporting are completed accurately, safely, and within required timescales. You will help supervise operational staff and contractors, allocate work, monitor performance, and provide practical guidance on procedures, priorities, and technical issues.

Key responsibilities include supporting the development and implementation of water quality monitoring schedules; reviewing results and identifying trends, anomalies, and potential risks; maintaining accurate records; and preparing clear reports for internal and external stakeholders. You will assist with investigations into water quality incidents, support corrective and preventative actions, and help ensure compliance with relevant legislation, permits, policies, and technical standards. The position will also contribute to audits, inspections, emergency response activities, equipment maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives. Effective communication with colleagues, laboratories, regulators, contractors, and members of the public will be an important part of the role.

Applicants should have experience in water quality, environmental monitoring, laboratory operations, or a related technical discipline, together with an understanding of sampling methods, quality assurance, health and safety, and environmental regulations. A relevant qualification in environmental science, chemistry, biology, water management, or a similar subject is desirable. You should be organised, analytical, and confident working with data, written reports, and digital record-keeping systems. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritise work in a changing operational environment. Experience supervising staff or coordinating contractors would be advantageous, as would knowledge of incident management and continuous improvement practices. A full driving licence may be required, along with a willingness to work outdoors, travel between sites, and participate in occasional out-of-hours or emergency response duties.
