Overview
We are currently supporting a leading player in the renewable energy sector to identify and hire a Senior Investment Associate. This position is based in Nairobi and offers the opportunity to be part of a high-impact team focused on scaling clean and reliable power solutions across East and West Africa.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in driving both strategic and operational financial initiatives, including corporate fundraising, project financing, financial modeling, asset management, and business strategy development. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with a passion for energy and infrastructure to work on complex, high-value transactions and actively shape Africa's energy future.
Key Responsibilities
Capital Structuring and Fundraising
Support equity and debt investor processes, including due diligence, Q&A, and transaction execution
Assist with the structuring of corporate and project-level debt, including local currency and HoldCo debt
Contribute to the development of strategies around capital deployment and drawdown management
Support structuring of non-commercial guarantees and ensure compliance with investor disbursement criteria
Financial Modelling and Investment Analysis (Core Focus)
Lead the development, enhancement, and audit of dynamic financial models used for investment decisions, fundraising, and performance monitoring
Collaborate closely with commercial, technical, and legal teams to ensure model assumptions are robust, accurate, and aligned with operational realities
Act as the internal expert on financial modeling, ensuring tools are maintained to best-in-class standards for sensitivity analysis, scenario testing, and investment approvals
Support the preparation of investment memos and presentation materials through detailed modeling insights and outputs
Provide advanced financial analysis to support capital planning, pricing strategies, and reinvestment decisions
Strategic Finance and Asset Management
Contribute to long-term capital structure strategy (e.g., debt/equity ratios, FX risk, treasury policy, lender engagement)
Track project asset performance and provide financial insight into improvement initiatives
Assist in financial operations for live projects and support cross-functional projects requiring in-depth financial input
Corporate Strategy and Special Projects
Provide input into strategic planning across distributed generation and C&I segments
Support financial structuring for new entities and entry into new markets
Lead or contribute to company-wide special projects with a strong financial lens
Candidate Profile
Experience and Expertise
2-4 years of experience in investment banking, project finance, private equity, or infrastructure advisory, ideally within the energy or utilities sectors
Demonstrated track record of building, maintaining, and auditing complex financial models for infrastructure or energy-related investments
Strong understanding of infrastructure finance fundamentals including PPAs, EPC/O&M contracts, and concessional frameworks
Experience working with international banks, DFIs, investment funds, or financial advisory firms in emerging markets
Solid project management capabilities with experience in cross-functional team environments
Skills and Attributes
Exceptional financial modeling and analytical skills with deep Excel proficiency; VBA, Python, or financial modeling certifications are a plus
Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen and attention to detail
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Fluent in English; French is an advantage
High integrity, entrepreneurial spirit, self-motivation, and a collaborative approach
