Job Summary:
The Wind Turbine Commissioning Technician will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful installation, testing, and commissioning of wind turbines at our various project sites. As an experienced professional in wind energy, you will be responsible for overseeing and executing the commissioning process, ensuring that the turbines are operational, efficient, and meet the highest safety standards.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the commissioning process for wind turbines, including pre-commissioning, testing, and final commissioning stages, ensuring all tasks are completed within project time lines.
- Conduct detailed inspections and functional tests of wind turbine components, such as blades, generators, control systems, and electrical connections, to verify compliance with specifications and regulations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, engineers, technicians, and subcontractors, to coordinate commissioning activities and address any technical issues that may arise.
- Develop and implement commissioning plans and procedures, considering manufacturer guidelines, industry standards, and project-specific requirements.
- Demonstrate a very good understanding of the scope of commissioning, maintenance, and evaluation of customer's equipment and systems, among others.
- Perform diagnostic tests and troubleshooting to identify and rectify mechanical, electrical, or software-related faults in wind turbine systems.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of commissioned wind turbines to optimise their efficiency and output.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance during the construction and installation phases to ensure compliance with commissioning standards.
- Document all commissioning activities, including test results, observations, and equipment inspections, and prepare comprehensive reports for project stakeholders.
- Conduct training sessions and knowledge sharing activities to enhance the skills of the operations and maintenance teams.
- Stay updated with industry trends, technological advancements, and relevant regulations to incorporate best practices into the commissioning process.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in onshore wind turbine commissioning projects.
- Direct drive experience
- In-depth knowledge of wind turbine technologies, components, and control systems.
- Strong understanding of commissioning processes, industry standards, and safety regulations.
- Very good understanding of the scope of commissioning, maintenance, and evaluation of customer's equipment and systems, among others.
- Proficiency in conducting diagnostic tests and troubleshooting complex mechanical, electrical, and software issues related to wind turbines.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Excellent organisational and project management skills to handle multiple commissioning projects simultaneously.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and convey technical information clearly.
- Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on quality and precision in all commissioning activities.
- Flexibility to travel to various project sites and work in challenging environments as required.
- Relevant certifications in wind turbine commissioning or related fields are preferred.
- College's degree in electrical related;
- Fluent English in both spoken and written;
- Ability to work in a construction environment making use of established safety procedures and personal protective equipment. Hands-on applications will require ability to climb vertical ladders in wind turbine towers and work at heights of greater than 100 meters.
