A well-established and growing Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor is seeking a Design Manager to join its renewable energy division. With decades of experience in delivering comprehensive EPC services, this company specializes in the construction of utility-scale Wind, Solar, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across North America.

Position: Design Manager
Reports to: Construction Vice President
Location: Remote - U.S. based
Travel: 1 week of travel to Dallas office per month

Role Overview

As the Design Manager, you will oversee all phases of design for renewable energy projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory and technical standards, and that all deliverables align with internal and client expectations. This role requires a strong background in engineering and design, effective leadership, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving. Working closely with pre-construction and procurement teams, you'll support equipment selection and subcontractor agreements, helping to deliver high-quality, constructible solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Coordination

  • Develop and maintain project design schedules, budgets, and team resources

  • Collaborate with stakeholders including estimating, procurement, and engineering to ensure unified goals

  • Lead design reviews and resolve issues to keep projects on track

Design Oversight

  • Engage with and manage the Engineer of Record (EoR) to ensure project requirements are well-defined and contractually sound

  • Review design documents, drawings, and specifications for accuracy and completeness

  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, industry standards, and project-specific requirements

  • Evaluate constructability and feasibility at the point of interconnection

Team & Technical Leadership

  • Lead and mentor internal and external design teams, fostering collaboration and technical excellence

  • Provide guidance on complex technical issues and engineering decisions

  • Act as the key liaison for client feedback and coordinate updates with the design teams

Quality & Risk Management

  • Implement quality control measures and ensure consistency across design deliverables

  • Perform audits and peer reviews to identify gaps and manage risk

  • Maintain health, safety, and environmental compliance during design phases

Client & Stakeholder Communication

  • Serve as the main contact for clients during the design stage

  • Prepare reports and updates for stakeholders and senior leadership

  • Incorporate client input while safeguarding project timelines and integrity

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems focus preferred) or equivalent experience

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license highly desirable

  • 7+ years of experience in renewable energy design or construction management

  • Strong knowledge of wind, solar, and energy storage technologies

  • Proven leadership and project coordination skills

  • Proficiency in design and planning tools (e.g., PVsyst, AutoCAD, Revit, MS Project)

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills

  • Ability to collaborate with remote teams
