Tunnel Design Review Specialist (TBM/NATM) - Abu Dhabi | Rail Project

EWI is supporting a leading European consultancy in their search for a Tunnel Design Review Specialist for a major rail infrastructure project based in Abu Dhabi. This is a great opportunity to join a high-profile team delivering one of the region's most ambitious transport programs.

The role focuses specifically on design review for TBM and NATM tunnel works, offering a strong hybrid working model and excellent benefits.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct technical reviews of tunnel designs (TBM and NATM) to ensure alignment with project specifications and international standards.

Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including design teams and client representatives.

Provide expert input on tunnel alignment, methodology, and constructability.

Support risk assessments and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.

Contribute to technical meetings and manage documentation related to design submissions.

Profile & Experience:

15+ years' experience in tunnelling, including significant exposure to TBM and NATM methods.

Strong consultancy background with a focus on design review, not design execution.

Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.

Familiarity with international standards and large-scale infrastructure delivery.

Excellent communication and coordination skills.

Must be based in or open to relocating to Abu Dhabi.

Location: Abu Dhabi
Working model: Hybrid (2-3 WFH days/week)
Family status included
Salary package: Approx. 45-50K AED/month
Start date: ASAP
Holiday: 23 days annual leave

Key Responsibilities:

Configure and commission secure networks across substation environmentsInstall switches, routers, firewalls, and establish secure VPN/VLAN architectureEnsure system redundancy and compliance with cybersecurity standardsSupport integration with SCADA and protection systemsExecute on-site troubleshooting, documentation, and handover

Requirements:

Project

The infrastructure project is based on the West Coast of Norway and consist of the construction of several tunnels, bridges and highways, the construction has already started and is estimated to last for at least 2 more years.



Job Role / Responsibilities

Ensure that the design and operation of the project is in accordance with all applicable regulations, standards and permitsPreparation and update of environmental risk assessments with belonging risk-reducing measures, to avoid damage to the environmentPreparation and updating of routines and procedures for activities that may affect the external environmentPrepare contingency plans to prevent or reduce negative environmental impactPrepare control plans and checklistsFollow up construction work in the fieldEnsure that the environmental plans are updated and distributed in accordance with the project's progress and development, and in accordance with current guidelines and regulationsBe involved in case processing and follow-up of deviations related to environmentPerform site environmental inspections and audits and produce respective reportsCarry out required environmental monitoring (Air quality, Water Quality, Noise, Soil, etc)Analyse, compile and report environmental monitoring dataEnvironmental permit applications coordination and follow up its compliance

HSE duties

The leading infrastructure recruitment specialist are looking for a Quality Coordinator to join a global leader in construction sector for one of Norway's technical infrastructure tunnel projects.

Project

The infrastructure project is based in Oslo area and consist of the construction of 1.5 km-long tunnel that will serve as a new county road connection, linking existing major routes and providing improved access to surrounding areas. The project involves relocating a section of a key highway underground, enhancing traffic flow and reducing surface congestion in a densely populated urban municipality.

Key Responsibilities:

Support the development and implementation of the Project Quality Plan, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and related procedures.

Coordinate and perform quality inspections of civil works, including excavation, concrete works, waterproofing, tunnel lining, and M&E installations.

Monitor contractor and subcontractor compliance with quality requirements and specifications.

Track non-conformities (NCRs) and follow up on corrective and preventive actions.

Ensure accurate documentation of inspections, tests, and quality audits.

Liaise with the design team, client representatives, and external auditors on quality-related matters.

Assist in training site personnel on quality procedures and best practices.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and lessons learned for future tunnel and infrastructure projects.

Requirements:

Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quality Management, or a related field.

Minimum 4-5 years of experience in quality coordination or QA/QC roles within tunnel or infrastructure projects.

Knowledge of construction standards and QA/QC best practices.

Familiarity with tunnelling methods

Strong communication skills and the ability to work across multiple teams.
