We are seeking a highly experienced and independent Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Engineer to support high-voltage transmission and distribution projects across Europe. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in GIS design, installation, testing, and commissioning, and will work closely with project managers, OEMs, and utility clients.
Key Responsibilities:Design, review, and optimize GIS layouts and interconnection schemes for HV substations (typically 110kV to 400kV)Oversee or support the installation, testing, and commissioning of GIS equipment from major OEMs (e.g., Siemens, Hitachi Energy, GE, ABB)Ensure compliance with IEC standards, utility requirements, and HSE regulationsPerform site acceptance tests (SAT), FAT participation, and troubleshoot GIS issuesSupport project documentation including technical reports, method statements, and risk assessmentsLiaise with utility clients, contractors, and local authorities across different European marketsConduct technical audits and inspections of GIS equipment and associated systems (e.g., protection, control, SF6 handling)Provide remote or on-site engineering support during project execution phasesRequirements:Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field5+ years' experience working with high-voltage GIS in transmission/distribution projectsProven experience with major GIS OEMs (e.g., Siemens, Hitachi, GE Grid, ABB)Strong knowledge of IEC standards, SF6 regulations, and substation engineering practicesProficient in AutoCAD, EPLAN, or similar engineering softwareEU citizenship or eligibility to work across European countries as a freelancerWillingness to travel across Europe for on-site assignments

Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled GIS Engineer with proven experience in the construction, assembly, and commissioning of Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS) substations. This is a long-term contracting opportunity on major high-voltage substation projects across Europe. The role demands hands-on technical expertise in GIS environments and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced site environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and carry out the mechanical assembly of GIS equipment, following OEM specifications and site procedures.Perform LVCC commissioning and functional testing for GIS substations.Execute high-voltage testing (insulation resistance, pressure tests, partial discharge, etc.) on completed GIS installations.Manage pre-commissioning and commissioning tasks, including interlock checks, SF6 gas handling, and system energization.Interface with electrical engineers, site managers, and QA/QC teams to ensure seamless project execution.Document all testing procedures, commissioning checklists, and site reports accurately.Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.Requirements:
Minimum 3 years' hands-on experience in GIS substation environments, preferably with voltages 132 kV and above.Solid background in GIS mechanical assembly, LV/HV commissioning, and HV testing.Familiarity with GE OEM GIS systems is strongly preferred.Ability to interpret technical drawings, interlock schemes, and protection logic.Degree or technical qualification in Electrical/Power Engineering or related discipline.Flexible to work on multiple project sites across Europe.Strong communication skills and ability to integrate with multinational site teams.Preferred Qualifications:
