EPC Contract Manager - Photovoltaic Infrastructure & BESS (Storage) - Madagascar
Our client is a prominent player in the African renewable energy sector, with a strong presence in several key industries, including real estate, telecommunications, financial services, energy, and innovation. Operating across multiple African countries, the company is committed to driving socio-economic transformation by developing renewable energy projects that address the growing demand for energy access.
As part of their ongoing expansion, our client is seeking an EPC Contract Manager who will play a crucial role in managing contracts and maintaining relationships with EPC companies responsible for the construction of solar power plants across Africa.
Our client is looking for a candidate with strong experience in the sector, who has already handled and managed EPC contracts for medium and large renewable energy plants. Solid references in renewable energy development projects will be required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establishment, Negotiation, and Management of EPC Contracts
- Collaborate with legal, financial, and technical teams to establish, negotiate, and revise contracts for the deployment of renewable energy infrastructure.
- Oversee the definition of contractual terms from the "Head of Terms" to the full contract body and its annexes.
- Ensure contracts protect the project company's interests, guarantee bankability, and support medium- and long-term technical and economic objectives within the EPC, O&M, and Asset Management ecosystems.
- Lead and manage the involvement, deadlines, and commitments of all parties to achieve contract signings within budgetary and time constraints.
- Organize and Lead Contract Negotiations
- Participate in contract negotiations with clients, contractors, suppliers, and financial interfaces.
- Manage contract modifications, ensure traceability, and document the impact across various contract components.
- Encourage or propose coordinated solutions for negotiations between stakeholders.
- Risk Assessment and Mitigation
- Identify, assess, and maintain a list of contractual risks, and develop strategies for mitigation.
- Coordinate with project stakeholders to evaluate technical and economic solutions for risk reduction.
- Contract Monitoring and Management of Amendments and Escalations
- During the EPC phase, coordinate with procurement and infrastructure deployment teams to monitor and enforce contract terms, including deadlines, performance, procedures, billing, and costs.
- Manage notifications, issue "Variation Orders," and handle escalations.
- Support compliance checks for designs, deliverables, and site receptions.
- Dispute Resolution for EPC and O&M Contracts
- Establish and document the contractual status of disputes with the support of internal teams (technical, finance, procurement, insurance).
- Advise management on dispute resolution strategies based on past cases or similar precedents.
- Facilitate discussions and act as an intermediary in resolving disputes between the company and service providers or subcontractors.
- Documentation, Traceability & Reporting
- Maintain contract documentation, including archives, version control, and shared records of amendments, notices, and correspondence.
- Contract Compliance & Performance Reporting
- Collaborate with internal legal, environmental, and procurement teams to update contract policies and ensure compliance with regulations (IFC, lenders, case law).
- Implement regular performance reporting on EPC, procurement, and O&M/exploitation contracts.
- Market Monitoring and Industry Trends
- Stay informed of market trends and developments in renewable energy infrastructure through participation in industry events (conferences, seminars, working groups).
Candidate Profile:
- Master's degree (or equivalent) in engineering or business administration.
- Proven experience and expertise in the renewable energy sector.
- Previous experience working in Africa or developing countries in a similar role.
- Strong understanding of EPC contracts, including technical, commercial, and legal aspects.
- Demonstrated success in negotiations with EPC companies on photovoltaic projects.
- Knowledge of greenfield energy project development stages.
- Excellent leadership, management, and strategic thinking skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Advanced business English proficiency.
Location: Madagascar
Salary Package: Salary range between €75K and €100K + expatriate package
